Lace Collars and the Royal Albert Hall

I have been meaning to upload these for quite sometime. I finally managed to find a couple of lace collars, which I was harping on about earlier in the year. I gave in to the one from Urban Outfitters, a moment of weakness. Although in truth, I have been rather taken by their current collection. I am clearly getting younger in my old age.

The second was from Reign, a vintage clothing shop on the Cowley Road, Oxford. Reign is truly amazing and I am unable to recall a time when I have left the shop empty handed.

Vintage

I am starting to feel human again after a rather wild night in London. We went to Roger Daltrey's Teenage Cancer Trust gig at The Royal Albert Hall. I had one or two glasses of rose too many, but all in the name of rock 'n' roll. Beady Eye were the headline act, so it was a bit like attending a mod convention. The people watching in the pub before the gig was fabulous!

Sea Gull

Chip Butty

Ahhh, the British seaside - fish and chips, low flying seagulls, piers, arcade machines, toffee apples, candy floss and kiss me quick hats.

I first discovered Suzy Prior's photography during The Oxford Open at Modern Art Oxford in 2008. I was working at the gallery back then, and Suzy's photographs were hanging on the wall outside my office. They always brought a smile to my face.

Funnily enough, back in 2008, I was still painting and one of my oil paintings was included in the show. Later that year I joined Flickr, threw out my paint brushes and the rest is history.

Suzy captures the Great British stiff upper lip perfectly. It might be blowing a gale - but we will paddle in the sea.

Vintage Finds

I am keeping up with my New Year's resolution of only buying vintage. I have also given masses of stuff to charity. Anyway, giving to charity also means buying from charity, so on Saturday we went to the epic Sue Ryder sale at Nettlebed. I came away with a huge stack of vintage fabrics, laces and embroidery. Lots of rummaging was had by all.

Embroidery

On Thursday I went to the Oxford flea market, I always spend some of my lunch break there, it is my Thursday treat. How could anyone resist this tiny vintage elf for a mere 50p? The stall holder told me he belonged to her brother when he was a boy.

Last weekend my parents came to visit and my Mum gave me this stunning vintage fawn brooch.

Fawns

Just to finish, here is a pomeranian enjoying the Sue Ryder sale on Saturday. I think he was wondering what all the fuss was about. Calm down it's only vintage.

Friday Photographer ~ On Dressing Up

Thrifted Treasure

I love the dreamlike world of my Friday Photographer On Dressing Up. The light, the mood and the atmosphere remind me of movie stills, and if I am honest, these are the kind of photographs I would like to take.

If you would like to see more please visit the On Dressing Up blog.

Does anyone else think of the movie Jaws when they see the image below?

Thinking of Japan

I spent most of the weekend collecting together beautiful things for Oxfam. What has happened, and is still happening, in Japan is beyond words and I hope a little of the money raised will find its way there.

I wanted to also draw your attention to a Flickr group created to raise awareness of various small fundraising initiatives. The group is called Dolly Community unite for the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Please visit and join in.

Vintage Fashion is coming to Oxford

Judy's Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair is coming to the Oxford Town Hall on Saturday 26 March 2011. What a great excuse for some vintage shopping and all on my door step. I used to work with Judy as a Personal Shopper at Selfridges, London, so I am quite excited to see her amazing venture. Not to mention taking advantage of some well deserved retail therapy. Here are some photographs of her previous fairs, maybe I will see you there?

Friday Photographer ~ Yvette Inufio

Yvette Inufio is one of my favourite photographers on Flickr. I love her photographs of the sea, particularly the ones incorporating motifs such as ballooms, vintage suitcases and typewriters. (I need that pink suitcase in my life!)

All these images are just magical and they remind me of how much I need a holiday. Sigh.

Yvette can be found on Flickr, Facebook and Twitter, she also has a blog and an Etsy shop.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, my parents are visiting so I plan to be spoilt rotten!
